ESA is the largest amateur surfing association in the world, with a current membership of over 7,000 surfers. Our family oriented programs promote a healthy and active lifestyle. It is not uncommon to find two or three generations of the same family involved as members of the ESA, and actively competing in our program. Two of the original founders of the ESA, Cecil Lear and David Reese, are still active in the association forty years later.
Our local district is Outer Banks North Carolina , the district director is Ricky Brake, with his wife JoAnn Brake assisting. We have 7 contests planned for 2018 season and locations will be Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk, based on permits and changing sand bars. Contest entry fees are $20.00 for the first division entry and $10.00 for each additional division entry.
The Association’s activities are organized into a total of twenty-three districts, which extend along nearly 2,000 miles of coastline. Stretching from Maine through the Gulf Coast of Florida, Alabama, and the Great Lakes across the Atlantic to the Caribbean, each district’s programs are developed and operated by a dedicated group of volunteer directors and staff.
The Outer Banks District usually holds one contest each summer (usually in July) at the Rodanthe oceanfront park located south side of the Dare County Water plant. We look forward to the opportunity to see you and your families on the beach. This is great family fun. The ESA welcomes all ages in competition, or if you prefer just volunteering on the land, we welcome you as well.
